NIE job losses

transmission The fall-out of the recent price review of NIE has led the company to announce plans for a selective redundancy scheme which could led to 120 jobs going at the energy utility. It has 1,200 employees at present.

The company was acquired by ESB in 2010 and owns the electricity transmission and distribution networks across Northern Ireland.

The company’s last five-year price review was subject to a Competition Commission review earlier this year and the company was not allowed the level of investment that it had sought over the coming five-year period.

According to NIE, the scheme is being introduced “in response to a significant reduction in its operating cost allowances under the recent price control determination.”
